Phares ZS09 Zero Speed Switch Sensors are compact, all-in-one devices which conveniently combine sensor and relay. No additional control boxes needed. But, the question is, how does the ZS09 work with my machine? How are they installed? Where do they get mounted?
In order to confirm motion, the ZS09 Zero Speed Switch Sensors need something to detect, such as a keystock. Shown below is a large keystock secured to a drum and a bracket mounted ZS09 Zero Speed Switch. As the drum rotates, the keystock passes the sensing end of the ZS09 ZSS Sensor. The ZS09 detects the keystock and confirms motion. When the drum stops, the ZS09 Zero Speed Switch no longer detects the keystock, confirming motion has stopped. The sensing distance for the keystock is 1/8” to 1/4”. For much larger gaps, Phares rectangle magnets are able to provide a gap of 1″-3” or more.
Another method (below) is to detect one or more bolt heads. The ZS09 ZSS detects the bolt heads as they pass to determine motion, or the lack thereof. Even if a bolt head stops in front of the ZS09 Zero Speed Switch Sensor, motion is still confirmed as stopped. Flat washers work very well too. Sensing distance is 1/8” to 1/4”. Regarding the illustration below, using Phares Magnets, Part No. SM-100, in place of the bolt heads increases the sensing distance to nearly 1”. Phares SM-100 Magnets are round, 1/2″ diameter, 1/8″ thick and have a #4 clearance hole in the center for easy installation.
Another method is to use a Phares Magnetic Disk. Shown below is a Phares 4” diameter high density magnetic disk with 36 PPR (pulses per revolution). Sensing distance is 1/4″ – 5/16″. Same disk is available with (optional) 72 PPR. Sensing distance is 1/16”.
Phares Magnetic Disks are secured to a shaft via 2 set screws. The Magnetic Disks can also be secured by bolting them to the end of a shaft. For applications which do not have access to the end of a shaft, Phares Split Magnetic Disks have 2 halves which clamp around a shaft and are secured via 2 set screws.
Phares sensors are also inductive zero speed switches. Simply align a ZS09 Zero Speed Switch with a geartooth wheel, wire the sensor, and you are up and running! Sensing gap is approximately 1/16″ to 1/4″.
